Who else is pumped for the holidays?

Who else is pumped for the holidays?

As we come to the end of the year, it’s our time to sit and reflect on the months past and the year to come. What did we do well? What do we want to achieve next year? What can we do for all you spectacular Bounce supporters in 2019?

We’ve had our biggest year ever in 2018; we’ve delivered more programs, reached more clients and visited more places than ever before! And 2019 is shaping up to look even bigger!

Of course, amongst all this planning and preparation, Bounce will be taking a break for a couple of weeks. We’ll be shutting up shop at 5pm on Friday the 21st of December and re-opening at 9am on Monday the 7th of January. Maria and Kelly will be taking some extended holidays to fully recharge after the massive year that has been 2018. Maria will be away from Tuesday the 11th of December and will return on Monday the 7th of January, while Kelly will be away from Friday the 14th of December and will return Monday the 7th of January.

As always with our last newsletter of the year, we leave the best ‘till last… you!

From everyone at Bounce, we want to express our absolute appreciation for your beautiful and ongoing support of everything Bounce. We couldn’t keep doing what we do without you, and we are extremely grateful. No matter where you are, or what you are doing over this holiday season, we hope you have a brilliant time, and we will see you, fresh and energised, in the New Year!

We love a good makeover, it gets you feeling all fresh and organised. But makeovers aren’t just for people; businesses need them too! That’s why over the last year we’ve been busily working away at some beautiful new branding to freshen up our look. And what branding would be complete without a shiny new website!

Some of you may have noticed already that the Bounce site is looking pretty amazing! But if you haven’t checked it out yet, you should! It’s fresh, clean and has heaps more information about what we do and how we can help you or your business.

The website has been remodelled to be more helpful to you, specifically. We want to get you the info you want and need with less clicks and more clarity – so we would love your feedback!

No mountain too high!

Maria has been out and about a lot this year, between facilitating corporate sessions, attending conferences, and going from meeting to meeting, Maria has definitely gained some frequent flyer points. But September’s trip was something extra special. For six days, Maria, along with 21 other adventurers, such as Karla Gilbert, Sam Riley and Pat Rafter, trekked up and down Lord Howe Island (and when we say up, we mean UP!). This amazing experience raised funds for the LifeChanger Foundation and pushed everyone to their physical limits.

The group took in the best sites and experiences of this world heritage, natural wonder. With seven stunning peaks to climb and seven incredible bays, swimming holes and natural aquatic wonders to explore, there was definitely no time to be bored.

Scaling the sides of mountains with nothing but a thin piece of rope for her safety, Maria pushed herself more than ever before, and we couldn’t be more proud! … Just don’t ask about her elbow.

If you’d like to know more about the incredible work that LifeChanger are doing or want to see some great footage of Maria’s trek, head over to the LifeChanger website by clicking here .

Trainer of the Month

It’s time for our last trainer of the month for the year! Everybody, please put your hands together for the incredible Tessa Jetson! This spectacular Bounce Trainer radiates energy and light everywhere she goes, putting smiles on participant’s faces and drawing people in with her infectious personality.

To say Tessa is passionate about empowering people to live life to their full potential, would be a huge understatement. As well as being a Bounce Trainer, Tessa has her own foundation called Tessa Jetson Foundation , which supports women and children that come from abusive homes. The foundation is currently raising funds to hold their second Restart Your Life Retreat .

Tessa’s passion for helping women and children comes from her own appreciation of the people that supported her when her life went down the same path. This is Tessa’s way of saying thank you.

International Indigenous Youth Symposium, NZ

Our amazing friends at LIFT Social Enterprise and JMP Consulting have been extra busy this month organising and hosting the 2018 International Indigenous Youth Symposium in Hastings, New Zealand. This inspiring event, aimed at participants from service providers, government agencies, employers and other young people, was held on the 11th and 12th of October and focused on exploring effective rangatahi (youth) engagement, youth entrepreneurship skills, succession planning in the workplace, organisational collaboration and youth employment successes.

Maria had the honour of being a keynote speaker alongside Bounce trainer, Atarau Hamilton, and delivered vital information around youth and employer engagement. But the biggest honour of all was bearing witness to the rangatahi (youth) performing the Haka in homage to two of their young leaders.

“It was such an inspiring and incredible experience to have so many people from so many walks of life, all together in the same room. Words can’t describe the feeling witnessing such an inspirational display of respect.” – Maria

Visit the LIFT Facebook page to see all the updates from the event and click here to watch the brilliant Haka performance.

Trainer of the month

Our trainer of the month for October is someone who has been with Bounce for just over six months. Kind-hearted, adaptable to change and positive, Prue Howard has helped us out more than we can say!

Before joining Bounce, Prue had been delivering programs for over four years in the life skills area, working to inspire people of all ages.

Each month we ask a trainer what they think is interesting about themselves. Prue, not knowing what to say, decided to ask her 11-year-old son his opinion and he replied with one of the best quotes we’ve heard so far – “while other people your age are slowing down, you’re speeding up.” And that couldn’t be any truer of our Prue!

Prue is compassionate, caring and inspiring to watch in her programs. She engages people with such ease that she becomes a part of their lives.

“In order to live our best life, we must choose to step into our fears instead of turning away from them.”

We can’t thank you enough, Prue, for everything you do for your participants, the sites and the team here at Bounce. You’re just Amazing!

Tip of the Month

“It’s been said so many times, but it’s true; what you put in is what you get out. So fuel your body with the things that it truly needs and watch yourself thrive!”

There’s no stopping our new Bounce trainers in NZ

August saw Maria jet-setting off once again to visit our friends from Lift Social Enterprises in New Zealand. With some fresh trainers joining the crew, Maria delivered our specialised Train the Trainer program across two days. What an honour it is to be able to get out there and empower trainers to create a space of change for the Bounce participants.

A big welcome to the Bounce Community Angela Spooner, Irone Broughton, Regina Cachuela and Graeme Ewart! Congratulations on becoming the newest Way Finders for New Zealand!

Matt’s away (and the calendar’s filling fast!)

Typical! While we’re all slaving away at our computers, Matt’s living it up in Europe, basking in the sun and working on his golf swing (not that we’re jealous or anything). For those of you who didn’t know, Matt is officially on holidays from the 31st of August to the 2nd of October, travelling around the world and seeing the sights!

Not to worry though, there’s heaps of support for everyone while Matt is away; Kelly (0419 326 694) and Chris (0400 610 808) are still available for all your program needs.

In other news, 2018 has been an amazing year of growth and outcomes for job seekers. With only a few months left, our training calendar is getting very full. If you’re looking to book a program for your job seekers before the end of the year, you’ll need to be quick! We only have a couple of dates left for October and only a handful left for November (We’re also starting to take bookings for January and February 2019!).

While Matt’s away you can get in contact with Kelly on 0419 326 694 or Chris on 0400 610 808 to secure your bookings before you miss out!

What a conference!

What a conference!

What a huge few days it has been at the 2018 NESA Conference in sunny Brisbane! With so much laughter, prizes and, of course, networking jam packed into those 2 days, we’re all surprised to see Maria, Bec and Matt so energetic!

First of all, we want to say a massive congratulations to our prize winners! Coming in first place is Rose Scown from Centacare Employment who walked away with a brand new Apple iWatch, and in second place is Kerrie Cooke from Australian Employment Training Solutions, with the prize of a delicious bottle of Strathmuir Shiraz. Well done and we hope you enjoy!

Secondly, we want to thank everyone who came to chat to the Bounce team at the booth. What a great group of people you are! With all the conversations, laughs and of course, cocktails… well, let’s just say Kelly is incredibly jealous that she couldn’t be there.

Finally, we’d like to thank NESA for once again putting on such a great event and bringing everyone together to not only have a great time but also giving us the opportunity to learn new things and get industry updates from the people who are in the thick of it.

Remember, just because the conference is over for another year doesn’t mean that we can’t keep in touch! If you’re interested in the services that Bounce provides or just want to say hi, give us a call and have a chat, we’d love to hear from you!

Imagine the possibilities #SeriouslyClever

Your employees are the heart of your business. Whether they take care of your customers, create your products or write your reports, your employees are the foundation that makes the business what it is. Investing in their professional development is one of the most important decisions you can make as a leader.

We show you how to move your business from good to great with stellar leadership, confident customer engagement, insightful communication and positive workplace cultures. Click here to know more!

Action takers, how to go bold and be brilliant

We live in a time where employees are no longer numbers on a clipboard, they’re needed and appreciated, and having employees that are happy, productive and excel in their work is more vital than ever before. A massive piece of this is corporate culture, and some of the largest and most successful companies have turned this into a fine art.

For example, Netflix evaluates their employees by the abilities and accomplishments rather than the number of hours worked, creating a culture of self-starters and accountability. DreamWorks holds events and parties that encourage employees to showcase their personal work and projects to boost confidence and appreciation. Companies like Adobe, Google, Facebook, and Amazon build their incredible work cultures by investing in their employee’s professional development.

You may not be able to hold large parties or have the luxury of changing the entire business model, but you can give your team the skills they need to go from good to great. Maybe upskilling your team hasn’t crossed your mind yet and that’s okay, but remember a business or company name alone is not what makes it successful, it’s the people behind the scenes that work hard every day, yourself included, that make it happen. This is where innovation begins, and success stems from. This is how you go bold and be brilliant – together!

Another incredible trip!

Another incredible trip!

It’s been a little while since we’ve given you a Bounce USA Update but the wait is over! Three weeks ago, Maria and Nettie embarked on the 21-hour journey to Boston, Massachusetts, to visit one of the Bounce Programs and catch up with the Bounce USA trainers – as well as escape the freezing Victorian winter of course. Being Nettie’s first time meeting the trainers and everyone that works at Central Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board (where the Bounce Program is currently being licenced), she was overrun with incredible stories, hugs and screams of excitement – literally!

While the girls managed to slot in a quick trip to Salem to learn about witches, the short five-day visit mostly consisted of drop-ins, meetings and planning for future growth (and boy is there about to be some growth!).

Maria and Nettie got to drop in on day one of a Bounce Program, where Maria told her story and chatted with the participants about what they want to get out of the program. It was an incredible experience and an amazing group of people.

Thank you to everyone that made our trip such an incredible experience – we couldn’t ask to be involved with more motivated and inspiring people.

Being a working mum isn’t easy!

Maria is an incredible facilitator, trainer, public speaker and, of course, mum to her son, Lucas, and step mum to Tom, Liam, and Georgia. With all the hard work she puts in balancing work and home life, it’s no wonder she was invited to contribute to “Working Mums – Stories by real women on how they manage children, work and life”.
This incredible book takes you through people’s real-life experiences, struggles and ultimately successes in being a working mum, all with the aim to support the growing population of women who choose to don the red cape and begin the perpetual juggling act that is working and raising children.

With a huge range of influential Aussie mums jumping on board to share their stories, the book contains titbits from people such as musician Missy Higgins, radio host and comedian George McEncroe, and of course the lovely Maria Smith, Founder and CEO of Bounce!

If you’re a working mum or are about to become one, then you can go past the newly released “Working Mums” book! Inspired by the struggles and hilarity that working mum’s face on a daily basis in Australia, the book contains real stories and experiences from women just like you.

“Working Mums is a must-read for every mother. Filled with inspirational stories of amazing women who share the reality of the beauty and challenges of combining motherhood and work.” – Peace Mitchell, AusMumpreneur and The Women’s Business School

If you’d like to know more about the Working Mums Book and maybe even purchase a copy for yourself, you can head to www.workingmumsstories.com or www.finch.com.au/books/working-mums

Trainer of the Month

This month we’re featuring a very special trainer. Not only is she a career counsellor, offender employment specialist and certified professional resume writer, she is also our very first American Bounce trainer to be featured in the newsletter! So today, we proudly introduce the amazing Cheryl Kelly!

Cheryl has been with Bounce USA since its beginning in 2014 and has been supporting job seekers in achieving their goals ever since! Using her experience, skills and knowledge, Cheryl works with clients of all ages and backgrounds ranging from participants in Transitional Assistance Programs, low-income youth and adults as well as dislocated job seekers and ex-offenders re-entering the workforce.

Cheryl is no stranger to Workforce Development having spent the past 21 years as a career counsellor and case manager which has taught her the importance of assisting individuals in their transition into the workforce leading to self-sufficiency. Before that, she was a legal assistant for ten years concentrating on working with court-appointed attorneys and their clients.

Maria and Nettie had the privilege of popping into one of Cheryl’s programs during their last visit. It was only 2 hours into day 1 and participants were already sharing stories, laughing with each other and making new connections. There’s no mistaking Cheryl’s passion for supporting others in times of transition; it shows in her compassionate delivery and the faces of her participants.

Thank you, Cheryl, for your dedication to your participants and your never-ending passion for delivering Bounce. You’re a star!
